Workshops have been broken into in Leintwardine, near Ludlow, as well as Leominster and Kington on the south Shropshire border.

Police said a number of "high value" tools have been stolen during the raids.

There have also been similar break-ins further south in Hereford and across the Welsh border in Hay-on-Wye.

In some cases expensive high-tech diagnostic equipment has been targeted.

An investigation has been launched by West Mercia Police who said the break-ins had been to do with car repair places.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We are advising such businesses to be on the lookout and to review their security arrangements. These have been break-ins to do with car repair places."

Local police teams from both West Mercia Police and Dyfed-Powys Police are patrolling the border and attending repair businesses to offer crime prevention and security advice, he said.
