Market Drayton man, 26, attacked his pregnant ex-partner
A Market Drayton man "hoped his unborn baby would die" when he repeatedly attacked his former girlfriend in a flat, a court was told.
Ryan Terrence Webb punched his terrified pregnant victim in the stomach several times in a bid to cause her to lose the child, Telford Magistrates Court heard.
He only stopped the assault, which took place at the flat of a friend of the victim, when he was disturbed and quickly fled the scene.
The 26-year-old, who was drunk while he carried out the attack, had turned up at the flat claiming he wanted to resume his relationship with his ex-partner, the court was told.
But the atmosphere quickly turned and Webb started to punch kitchen units before attacking his ex.
Webb, of Kiln Bank Road in Market Drayton, admitted assault by beating when he appeared at court yesterday.
He was ordered to carry out two years of community service, of which 150 hours will be unpaid work.
Mr Giles Rowden, prosecuting, told the court that Webb, who works as a tiler, started pulling hsi ex-partner's hair and punched a number of kitchen units on September 9.
He said: "The defendant had a brief relationship with the victim and during that time she became pregnant.
"On the night in question the victim was at a friend's flat in the town.
"Webb showed up at the flat saying he wanted to speak with the victim. He said he wanted her back.
"The victim said at that point he became aggressive and started punching kitchen units and then pulled her hair.
"He also hit her in the stomach and said he hoped the baby would die.
"Her friend then came in the kitchen after hearing a struggle and Webb left the flat shortly afterwards."
Mr Peter Erdley, chairman of the bench, also ordered Webb to pay £760 in court charges.
