Shropshire Council's public health team is urging residents to give up the booze as part of Alcohol Concern's 2016 Dry January campaign.

Dry January aims to show people the benefits of cutting down on their alcohol intake, while raising money for the charity which is dedicated to tackling the harm caused by alcohol to individuals, families and society.

The charity wants people to raise money by asking friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them.

Karen Calder, Shropshire Council's cabinet member for health, said: "Dry January is encouraging people to stay off the booze for 31 days. It's an opportunity to make some real lifestyle changes, as well as setting yourself a personal challenge."
