Shropshire hotel gets highest possible AA rating
A Shropshire hotel has been given the highest quality rating possible this year among just eight others in the country.
Goldstone Hall, near Market Drayton has been given the top rating by the AA this year for its outstanding quality.
The restaurant and hotel, based in a Georgian Manor near Cheswardine, has been awarded the Red Star award at a London event hosted by Fiona Bruce.
John Cushing, hotel owner, said: "It is wonderful to be chosen to join the ranks of the best Hotels in the UK where you can expect more of everything – more comfort, more facilities, more extras and more attention.
"We are absolutely delighted, it is very exciting and slightly scary because it does mean you have to ensure consistent high standards and fulfil expectations – but it is a challenge we like.
"It is a fantastic and highly professional effort by the Goldstone Team to have brought such an award to Shropshire."
The awards have been running for more than 100 years and each year select the best hotels around the country with anonymous inspectors rating the hotels based on levels of quality, hospitality and service.
The inspector who visited the Market Drayton hotel said: "Goldstone Hall is situated in extensive grounds and is a family run Hotel, it provides well equipped accommodation with outstanding en suite bathrooms and lots of thoughtful extras.
"The kitchen has a well-deserved reputation for good food that uses home grown produce and a warm welcome is assured."
The hotel is known for its garden kitchen using products grown on site and regularly holds weddings and parties.
It has previously been awarded the Certificate of Excellence by travel review site TripAdvisor and was named Small Hotel of the Year for the Heart of England West Midland region.
Other red star winners this year included The Merchant Hotel in Belfast, The Corinthia Hotel in London and The George Hotel in Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.
