Investigation into fire at former school in Shropshire

Investigations were today continuing into the cause of a fire in a former school on the Shropshire border.

Firefighters from Eccleshall, Stafford and Rising Brook attended the boarded-up former Bishop Lonsdale School building in Eccleshall, near Market Drayton, on Wednesday night.

Crews had to use a thermal imaging camera to find the fire after being called out at around 7.20pm.

They left the scene shortly before 9pm and notified Staffordshire Police in the morning.

The building was ventilated and police secured it.

Jane Hoult, media communications assistant at Staffordshire Police, said: "We received a call just after 8am this morning from colleagues from the fire service reporting a fire at a disused school (Lonsdale Primary School) in Shaws Lane, Eccleshall.

"Officers attended the scene. No one present at the premises upon arrival of emergency services.

"An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the fire.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 646 of August 5."
