Controversial plans for Ludlow housing estate set to be thrown out
Controversial plans to build a 137-home estate on the outskirts of Ludlow look set to be thrown out.
Planning officers at Shropshire Council have deemed the proposed site for the homes off Foldgate Lane is outside the town's boundary and has not been included in Shropshire's five-year housing plan. It means the project would be treated as an attempt to build on the green belt – making it unlikely permission would be granted according to opponents.
Councillor Vivienne Parry, Shropshire councillor for Ludlow South, said the ruling amounted to the plans being scuppered and said people power had won the day.
She said 60 people had turned out to a meeting against the plans after they were submitted last year. A formal decision has yet to be made by Shropshire Council on the proposed 43-acre housing estate, which has been earmarked for a site close to the A49 to the south of the town.
