Bridgnorth councillors oppose solar farm scheme
Building 1,000 solar panels on farmland near Bridgnorth would be a "blot on the landscape", councillors have said.
Bridgnorth Town Council has opposed the plans for a solar farm on land at Cross Houses off the B4364.
Councillors were split on the decision, but the majority agreed the solar farm would spoil the landscape during last night's town council meeting.
The planned development by farming business EC Millington would see the land used for 25 years as a solar farm, producing enough energy to power 35 houses each year.
Councillor James Gittins, speaking at the meeting, said: "This is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The same farmer has previously put in for a wind turbine and now he has put in an application for 1,000 solar panels.
"How long would it be before the entire field was filled with solar panels if we accepted this application?
"It would be a blot on the landscape in an area of natural beauty."
Councillor Val Gill said it looked like a good scheme and there had been no objections about the plans locally.
She said: "I cannot see how it is going to cause problems for nearby residents."
