Justin Robinson, 38, pushed the victim onto a bed five or six times before slapping her across the face, Welshpool Magistrates Court heard.

Robinson, of Trid Dwr, Llanwddyn, admitted a charge of assault by beating when he appeared at the court.

Mrs Helen Tench, prosecuting, said police officers were called on June 29 to the couple's former home in Llanfair Caereinion.

She said: "Earlier in the day the victim had told the defendant that she was no longer wanting to be in a relationship with him and asked him to leave.

"Later that day he returned to the house, went upstairs and started to play on his Xbox computer console."

Mrs Tench said the victim asked the defendant to leave but he continually pushed her down onto a bed.

"She went downstairs and called the police but he smashed the phone," Mrs Tench added.

"She then went to a neighbours and he slapped her across the face."

Mr Paul Inns, for Robinson, said his client did not recall much of the incident but accepted it.

Robinson was given conditional bail to appear back at the court on July 28 for sentencing.
