The Shropshire Star's EU/UK survey - the results
The people of Shropshire are demanding reform of the European Union – and would vote to quit if their desires are not met.
Today, we reveal the results of our survey into the county's views on Britain's membership of the EU, the make-up of the United Kingdom, and our county's right to determine its own government.
More than 1,500 people took part in the survey, online and via post, and have returned some surprising results.

Among them, people said that Scotland should be allowed full independence from Westminster, but that Wales should stay put within the United Kingdom. The figures also suggest there is an appetite in our region for a merger between our two local authorities, but that people aren't interested in becoming part of a larger West Midlands authority, even if it means getting hold of greater devolved powers for the region.

The subject of Britain's membership of the European Union certainly stirred the blood during the recent General Election campaign, and the results of our survey also suggest disaffection with the role of the EU, and with the number of people migrating into the UK from Europe.
More than half of respondents said they would vote to quit the EU if a referendum were held today, but the outcome of David Cameron's tour of Europe could be pivotal – 51 per cent would opt to remain inside if he secures reform that would better the interests of Britain.
The survey is published as the Prime Minister continues efforts to persuade Europe's leaders that change is needed if the EU is to survive in its present form with the UK one of its most influential members.
Telford MP Lucy Allan today welcomed the survey, adding: "It is essential that there is some movement from Angela Merkel on the principle of free movement of people.
"If that issue cannot be negotiated to suit Britain I would prefer that Britain exit the EU.
"I'm surprised that 36 per cent would stay, even if a better settlement could not be negotiated."
We have a full breakdown of the revealing and often surprising results inside.
