Telford teachers take action in row over pay cuts
Up to 46 teachers at a college in Telford were today going on strike over a dispute regarding pay cuts.
National Union of Teachers (NUT) members at New College were staging a one-day strike in protest against restructuring plans, which some employees claim has "left many worse off".
Last year nine teachers and managers were made redundant from their positions and some took pay cuts of up to 20 per cent. A spokesman from the NUT at New College, said: "Some of those involved have given over 20 years loyal service to this college and have been forced to make urgent cuts to their household budgets."
Chloe Wright, spokeswoman for the college, said it was not clear how many teachers were taking strike action, but it was believed it could be up to 46. She said a contingency plan has been put in place.
