Woman killed in lorry crash was from Market Drayton, say police

An 80-year-old woman who died in a crash with a lorry was from Market Drayton, police have confirmed.

The woman, who has not yet been formally identified, was killed in the crash at about 3.45pm on Tuesday on the A529 at the Sweet Appletree crossroads near Hinstock.

Police have confirmed the woman was from Market Drayton and said formal identification was due to take place today.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene to a woman named Mary, and notes say thoughts are with the family.

Councillor Tim Beckett, mayor of Market Drayton, said: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those involved in this tragic accident."

Police said a silver Renault Megane was travelling towards Market Drayton, approaching the crossroads, when it was in collision with a small skip lorry.

The woman, who was front passenger of the Megane, died at the scene.

The Megane's driver, an 81-year-old male driver was taken to hospital in Stoke with significant injuries.

The lorry driver of the lorry, a 42-year-old man, had minor injuries.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or the circumstances leading up to it.
