Telford drivers face another six weeks of delays over crumbling road
Drivers in Telford face a further six weeks of delays after routine roadworks revealed structural problems below the surface of a road.
The unexpected roadworks will be carried out in Castle Farm Way in Priorslee, which will be completely rebuilt from Tuesday.
It means the southbound lane will be closed from Limekiln Bank to Castle Farm Interchange. All traffic leaving side roads will be able to join Castle Farm Way and head north. A diversion will be in place for drivers who wish to travel south in Castle Farm Way.
The problem came to light yesterday during resurfacing works which revealed the bottom layer of the road had crumbled.
Angie Astley, from Telford & Wrekin Council's assistant director of neighbourhood and customer services, said: "Local residents and drivers have shown great patience during the northbound closure this week on Castle Farm Way and we apologise for the inconvenience that this additional work will cause.
"We have worked with our contractors to agree a way of working which does not involve side roads being closed but does still mean the work will be completed as quickly as possible.
"By doing this essential and unexpected work now, we won't have to return to carry out further major maintenance work in this location for a long period of time.
"In addition, the work that we are doing will resolve ongoing issues of noise and vibration that we know have been a concern to residents."
