Firefighters tackle 100 tonne muck blaze near Shropshire

About 100 tonnes of muck caught fire in a field near Shrewsbury.

Fire crews were called to the muck heap near Little Ryton at about 6.45pm on Friday and spent two and a half hours there.

A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two fire appliances were mobilised from Church Stretton and Shrewsbury. The crews used two hose reel jets and drag hooks.

"The fire was extinguished by 9.12pm.

"We don't know what the cause was but it was not considered doubtful and police were not involved."
