Telford & Wrekin Council set to host second jobs fair at centre
Telford & Wrekin Council is hosting its second Partnership for Jobs fair tomorrow at The International Centre.
The event will be officially opened at 11am by Graham Wynn, of the Marches LEP.
Graham Wynn will be joined by council leader Kuldip Sahota and Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for employment and skills.
The first jobs fair was held a year ago and attracted about 4,000 job seekers.
The council has committed to reducing high youth unemployment levels in the borough and has invested £1.3 million in its two year programme.
Last year the council launched the Job Box, which pulls together a range of education, training and employment support.
As a result of the measures taken by the council, youth unemployment in Telford & Wrekin is decreasing at a greater rate than the regional and national rates with 1,000 unemployed 16 to 24 year olds finding work in the last year.
The event will highlight opportunities and support services for local people looking for employment and apprenticeships, as well as assisting local employers who are looking to recruit.
This follows the Jobs Fair, which took place last Friday at the Park Inn hotel in Telford.
Around a dozen stations were set up by companies ranging from Sports Direct to ShropDoc, with another 70 jobs listed on a board in the middle of the room. Companies were taking applications for apprenticeships, work placements and full-time jobs.
