'Think what you have done': Collection money stolen from Ludlow church
A clergyman is asking for a thief who made off with collection money from a Shropshire town centre church to think about what they have done.
About £40 collected during a Sunday service at the Church of St Laurence in Ludlow has gone missing from the building's vestry.
No one saw the thief, but the Venerable Colin Williams, the church's rector, hopes that whoever it was might have a pang of conscience – or even come to the church for help.
"Some money did go missing," he said.
"I hope the person who took it would think very carefully about it and maybe think about returning it – and if that person has particular needs, I hope they would consider coming to talk to us.
"We don't know who it was or how it happened.
"I've been here five years and I've never known something like this happen before.
"We do look after the money, we take it very seriously keeping the money people have given us safe.
"Obviously on this occasion something went wrong.
"We are putting processes in place to ensure it does not happen again," he said.
Chloe Drinkwater, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said the money went missing sometime between the service and 9am on Monday.
She said there were no suspects at present and anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 415s of March 2.
