Specialist teams were called to Cressage, around 10 miles downstream from Shrewsbury where the 20-year-old was last seen.

Daniel, 20, from Telford, went missing in November after a night out.

Det Sgt Rob Mountford said "Formal identification has not yet taken place but Daniel's family has been made aware. My thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.

"I would like to thank West Midlands Search and Rescue Team for their help. The investigation into Daniel's disappearance still continues."

No formal identification is expected until the end of the week, once a post mortem has taken place.

Two boats from West Midlands Search & Rescue were at the scene after police were alerted.

While the road was kept open police and search teams were seen in the fields just off the B4380.

Daniel's family were today being kept informed of developments by officers at their home in Madeley.

A widespread search was launched when Daniel failed to return from a night out with friends in Shrewsbury's town centre,.

He had been enjoying a night out in The Buttermarket nightclub on Saturday, November 22 and last spoke to his mother Lorraine Firmstone at 5.30am the next morning.
