Woman killed as car crashes into garden wall on Shropshire road
A woman was killed when the car she was driving crashed into a garden wall on a Shropshire country road.
The accident happened on the corner of Woolston Bank close to Maesbury, near Oswestry. The woman was declared dead at the scene.
The road was closed for more than three hours after the crash shortly before 4pm yesterday and motorists were urged to avoid the area. Police say the woman's family have been informed.
Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "When the ambulance staff arrived, they found a car which had been involved in a significant collision with a garden wall.
"Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the single occupant of the car, a woman, and she was confirmed dead on scene."
Anyone with information about the crash has been urged to contact police on 101.
The accident happened on a second day of tragedy on Shropshire's roads. A van driver died after being involved in a crash with a lorry on the A5 just south of the Gledrid roundabout, near Chirk, on Wednesday morning.
Yesterday a man had to be cut free from his car after it overturned on the B4386 between Chirbury and Marton, near Montgomery. He was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
