Shropshire pensioner killed in accident on A49 is named

An elderly pedestrian who died after being struck by a car on the A49 has been named by police.

Cyril Sydney Leather, 83, of Little Stretton, died on the way to hospital after the accident at the junction with Crown Lane.

He had been walking north along the A49 on the opposite side of the road to the junction which led to his home.

Sarah-Jane Lynch, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said Mr Leather's family had been contacted and he had been formally identified. The coroner had also been informed, she said.

Mr Leather was involved in a collision with a blue Nissan Micra travelling south.

The driver of the Micra, a 70-year-old man from Ludlow, did not sustain any injuries. Anyone who witnessed the crash at about 4.40pm on Sunday is asked to contact police on 101.
