Shropshire solar farm plans are dropped

Plans for a solar farm in the Shropshire countryside have been dropped.

Renewable energy firm TGC Renewables has decided against pursuing a project to build the 25-acre farm close to Whitton Court at Whitton, near Ludlow, due to "site constraints".

The proposal only got as far as a screening application, and comes after plans for a 43-acre solar farm by EBS Energy LLP just hundreds of metres away were thrown out by Shropshire Council's south planning committee in October.

Peter van Duijvenvoorde, chairman of Save South Shropshire Countryside, said: "We are delighted to say that the developer has since stated that they will not go ahead with the application, citing 'site constraints'.

"Naturally, my colleagues and I are delighted at this development.

"However, we remain deeply concerned about the proposals for solar farms at Neen Sollars and Tasley and we are incredulous at the resubmission of the Acton Scott application."

Plans for a 54-acre solar farm at Henley Bank in Acton Scott, near Church Stretton, was also refused permission in October, but applicant Bloombridge Renewables has now re-submitted a cut-down application that it says will have much less impact on the landscape.
