Shrewsbury youngster Ellie Russell has been awarded a British Cycling Olympic Team development apprenticeship by the Great Britain Cycling Team.

The 14-year-old Adcote School pupil was chosen among a high standard of nominees for the apprenticeship.

The development team's achievements are being recognised national and internationally meaning the apprenticeships are very difficult to achieve and put the riders on the high levels of British Cycling's performance pathway.

Adcote headmaster Gary Wright said: "Our warmest congratulations go to Ellie - gaining the apprenticeship is a fantastic achievement and she is surely on the fast track to further cycling success in the future."

This achievement has crowned off an impressive year for Ellie who has been selected to race for Team Sky in the Revolution Track Series at the Olympic Velodrome in London, in front of 6,000 spectators. She also recently competed in the National Madison Championship.
