Work to replace damaged drainage on the A49 outside the former Lazy Trout café near Marshbrook, between Church Stretton and Ludlow, starts on Monday.

The work, which is due to last until December 6, takes place on the northbound carriageway of the spine road through Shropshire from 9am to 4pm and 7pm to 7am Mondays to Fridays, with traffic controlled by temporary lights.

The Highways Agency have said the lights may need to be in operation 24 hours or at weekends if excavations cannot be closed before the end of a shift.

Purnima Kaul, project manager, said: "Replacing the collapsed drains under the road surface will prevent the A49 from flooding during wet weather.

"Although the northbound carriageway will only be closed for a short distance, the fact that work takes place during the day as well as overnight means there will be disruption to road users and we advise people to allow extra time for their journeys."
