Twenty two troublemakers have been banned for a year from a number of pubs in Market Drayton.

A letter from Market Drayton Pubwatch has been sent out to 22 people as part of a scheme to cut crime in the town.

PubWatch operates on a shared information basis where landlords and shop managers can decide whether a person involved in alcohol-related crime should be banned from their premises.

The ban applies for the following premises in Market Drayton:

  • Asda supermarket

  • Clive and Coffyne

  • Coach and Horses

  • Crown

  • Kings Head

  • Red Lion

  • Sandbrook Vaults

  • Hippodrome,

  • Lord Hill

  • Salopian Star

  • Stags Head

The letter warns that if a banned person attempts to enter any of those premises during the 12-month period, then legal action may be taken against them. It also says any infringement will automatically incur the reinstatement of the ban period from the date it was broken and a widening of the exclusion area to all members' premises throughout north Shropshire.

Mick Sturland, Market Drayton safer neighbourhood team officer, said the scheme was proving very successful.

He said: "We had a meeting this week with members of the pub watch scheme. We told members that violent crime inside premises was down – compared to this time last year.

"I am sure this is due to Pubwatch and the co-operation of members. We now have 11 pubs signed up, which means most of the premises in the town centre are members."

Mr Sturland said any pub can sign up to the scheme for free and all they need to do is get in touch with the team.
