Fire alert at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital
Patients and staff at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital were temporarily moved off two wards after a fire broke out in a toaster today.
The fire in the kitchen area of the hospital was swiftly put out by hospital staff who used a fire blanket to extinguish the flames before Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.
A number of patients and staff on wards six and seven were moved to other parts of the hospital for about an hour-and-a-half as a precautionary measure while firefighters and hospital staff ensured the area was completely safe to return to.
Hospital staff who put out the flames have been praised for their prompt actions after the fire broke out at about 7.30am.
Both wards were fully operational again by 9am.
Adrian Osborne, spokesman for Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: "Thank you to the staff who acted quickly to use a fire blanket to put out a small fire to a toaster in a kitchen area of the hospital, and to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service personnel who attended the scene.
"Thanks also to patients and staff who were temporarily moved to other parts of the hospital before both wards were fully operational again by 9am."
