£4 million project under way at Shropshire school
Work has started on a £4 million project to bring in 180 more beds and build a new sports hall at a girls' school.
The project at Adcote School in Little Ness, near Shrewsbury, is now in full swing after the start of the summer holidays, and will also see additional teaching and catering space created.
Single and twin en-suite rooms will be built for boarders, along with living areas supported with full wi-fi.
Up to 12 new jobs will be created in time for the autumn term as a result of the work, according to the school.
The building programme is coupled with investment in an international admissions office in Birmingham and also in Beijing, China.
Headmaster Gary Wright said: "The investment is in facilities and also in finding us pupils which is worth millions of pounds over the next 20 years.
"Everyone in the Adcote School community, pupils, parents and staff are both excited and inspired to see that the school is really on the up and investing in the future. We can't wait to move into the new premises.
"We are committed to a continuous programme of development over the next few years, adding modern, 21st century facilities that befit our outstanding school. Pupil numbers at the school have increased three-fold over the last few years, we are investing in facilities and pupils have achieved the best academic results for years. There is much to celebrate.
"With our continuing growth in pupil numbers and our strong reputation locally, these are undoubtedly exciting times for Adcote School. We are constantly seeking ways in which we can build and improve the school for the future."
The new facilities are expected to be ready for the pupils' return to school on September 3.
The school was founded in Doseley in 1907 and was based at Innage Hall and then Haughton hall, both in Shifnal, before the present site in Little Ness was bought in 1927.
