Asda store in Telford evacuated after oven sets off fire alarm

Shoppers at a Telford supermarket were evacuated today after heat from an oven in the bakery department set off the store's fire alarms.

Visitors to Asda, in Donnington Wood, were told to leave the store just before 4pm when the alarms were triggered.

A fire engine from Telford attended the scene but it was discovered to be a false alarm and shoppers were allowed to re-enter the store.

An Asda spokesperson said: "The fire alarm was triggered but we were back up and running within 20 minutes. The store was evacuated as a precaution."

A spokesperson from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a fire engine was called to the scene at 3.49pm after the fire alarms had been triggered by heat from an oven.
