The crash, involving two coaches and a car, happened on the eastbound carriageway between junction three for Albrighton and junction four for Shifnal.

It left debris on both the east and westbound carriageways and led to queues that stretched more than two miles towards Albrighton.

The Elcock Reisen coaches were empty at the time of the accident with the Renault Clio, which happened at around 3.30pm on Wednesday.

James Wright, of the Highways Agency, said: "One vehicle hit the central reservation. No injuries have been reported, thankfully, and both coaches were only carrying the drivers.

"The damage to the coaches was minimal so they were able to carry on to their destinations."

The car was more significantly damaged and the outside lane of the motorway was closed to allow for the vehicle to be recovered.

The inside lane remained open and there were delays of between 15 and 20 minutes for people travelling westbound.

The road was fully reopened by 5pm.
