Drivers face diversions as roadworks take place on Shropshire's A5
Motorists face a 26-mile diversion when roadworks take place on Shropshire's A5, it was revealed today.
The Highways Agency will be carrying out overnight work to put in the new signage and road markings on the road at the Queen's Head junction, near Oswestry, from Thursday, June 12.
When the road is closed during four nights of work, motorists will face a diversion along the A458 and A483.
A new electronic sign will be installed to warn southbound vehicles travelling from the Oswestry direction of the approaching junction.
There will also be standard road signs, safety barriers and new road markings as part of the safety project.
There have been several accidents involving vehicles emerging from the Queens Head junction and also those travelling from the south and turning right towards Queens Head.
Overnight road closures for the safety work will affect a third-of-a-mile section of the A5 at its junction with the B5009 near to the entrance to Oswestry Golf Club. Work will take place for four nights, between 8pm and 7am from June 12.
