Former mining community to remember past
A former mining community on the Shropshire border will remember its past this summer.
Black Park Chapel in Halton, near Chirk, will hold an exhibition of social and industrial heritage of Black Park and the surrounding areas during July.
To prepare for the event the organisers are appealing to local people to contribute to the exhibition.
"We are looking for historical photographs, artefacts, equipment, cine films or information relating to Black Park Chapel, Black Park Colliery and the Black Park Railway, " spokeswoman Gill Pierce said.
"We would also like to have memorabilia of Billy Meredith's football career and anything else relevant to the area."
The final date of the exhibition is to confirmed.
The organisers are also looking for those who have personal experience of the time when Back Park had its own mine and who would be willing to have their stories of the time recorded.
The project is being funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-13, which in turn receives its money from the Welsh Government and the European Union.
Black Park was built to serve one of the oldest collieries in North Wales. Set up in the mid 19th century, by 1896 the colliery employed 510 people which by the end of the First World War had increased to 718. It was finally closed because of economic pressures in 1968.
