It is not often food lovers in Shropshire will have a particular reason to be big fans of the Norwegian Seafood Council.

But they will be on Saturday when a chippie in Oswestry serves cod and chip dinners for 99p.

The price offer will be available at Salop Fish Bar on Salop Road while stocks last.

The promotion marks Norway Day and the Norwegian Seafood Council is working in partnership with 99 fryers across the UK to offer fish and chip fans the chance to hark back to the golden era of fish and chips and purchase a portion of their favourite takeaway for just 99p.

A total of 16 tonnes of cod has been gifted to the 99 shops, including Salop Fish Bar, as part of the initiative, allowing nearly 40,000 people nationwide to join this celebration of our favourite dish of cod and chips.

Harry Haralambous from Salop Fish Bar said: "We are so pleased to be taking part in this annual celebration.

"Fish and chips are a firm favourite in Oswestry.

"I know that our customers will enjoy the delicious Norwegian cod and chips on offer - and they will certainly enjoy the prices too.

"I am expecting to be very busy. I have 400 portions for the 99p offer and they will be available from 11.30am until the stocks run out."
