Arriva Trains Wales has launched a new timetable which will mean some changes to services from this weekend including some earlier departures from Shrewsbury.

The train company says it will mean many service improvements across its network.

Some of the changes featured in the new timetables have been made in response to customer feedback and in consultation with the Welsh Government and other organisations, Arriva says.

Lynne Milligan, Customer Services Director, said: "Other changes result from the opportunity to "fine tune" operations to improve efficiency, to provide additional services for certain stations and to target areas of increasing customer demand."

Some of the most significant changes include those on the Heart of Wales route.

Services on the Heart of Wales line will now depart Swansea and Shrewsbury at the same time each day between Monday and Saturday. This will result in some service departure times being re-timed with some leaving slightly earlier.

The 10.55am Birmingham New Street to Holyhead service, Mondays to Fridays will now leave three minutes earlier.

Other changes include re-timing between Milford Haven and Cardiff and Carmarthen to Manchester Piccadilly and Milford Haven to Manchester Piccadilly.

There are also some timetable changes in north Wales and in the Valleys of South Wales.

She added: "We are really keen to stress that some of these changes result in the earlier departure of our train services. We are urging all passengers to check their usual journey plans well in advance of May 18 to allow time to amend other connecting travel arrangements should they be affected. We have also listened to some of our smaller communities who have requested extra stops at their stations.

Posters highlighting all the significant alterations are up at the relevant stations.
