Charity ride police officers stopping off in Ludlow
A team of eight police officers are attempting to cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End - and will stop off in Ludlow along the way.
The team, who all work for British Transport Police, start the near 1,000 mile journey on Saturday and will aim to complete the trek in ten days, raising up to £20,000 for the Samaritans.
They are expected to arrive in Ludlow on May 9 and will stay over at the Travelodge in the town before heading off the following day towards the next stop in Wincanton.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Newton, who is leading the team, said: "The John O'Groats to Land's End route is a gruelling one, especially in such a short space of time, but we have all been training hard and are taking part to help a fantastic charity.
"Samaritans carries out tremendous work to help people in distress who often have nowhere else to turn.
"As a police force dedicated solely to working on the railway, we know only too well the human cost of those who feel they have no option but to harm themselves."
The team will also stop off at Bonar Bridge, Fort William, Glasgow, Carlisle, Liverpool and Launceston, before finally arriving at Land's End at about 6pm on May 11.
The challenge normally takes 12 days and is often ridden from south to north to allow for prevailing winds.
