Bilal Ahmed, 27, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply after cannabis with a street value of between £5,440 and £8,160 was found by police.

He appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday while already in custody for an unrelated offence.

Ahmed was convicted of possessing a hand gun in January and is currently serving a five-year sentence.

The drugs were found in his room at a house on Elwood Road, Arleston, Telford, before his conviction, when he would have been on bail for the firearm offence, prosecutor Kevin Jones said.

He said there was £675 and five packages amounting to 544g of cannabis. Ahmed immediately admitted to police that the drugs and the money were his, he said.

He said there was no evidence the possession of a hand gun that he was convicted for in January was related to the possession or supply of the drugs.

Mark Sharman, defending, said Ahmed had the good sense to plead guilty at the first opportunity.

He said he had been living in the UK for nine years and had family and a girlfriend who was currently pregnant in the Telford area.

He said Ahmed had worked in supermarkets and factories and was currently working for a charity that helped apprentices find work.

"He was essentially supplying to friends and people he knew," Mr Sharman added.
