Roadworks redone on A5 in Shrewsbury after congestion and safety fears
Roadworks on Shropshire's A5 are being redone just weeks after engineers left the site.
The move follows complaints about increased congestion and fears over safety.
Workmen returned to the Edgebold island on the outskirts of Shrewsbury last night to change the road layout.
The road will be closed overnight tonight and tomorrow.
The road was widened at the junction on the A5 and A488 last month and was intended to cut congestion.
But a number of people have since contacted Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski raising concerns.
They include fears about more traffic building up on approaches to the roundabout, and officials at the Highways Agency have agreed to change the road layout again.
Initial work to widen lanes around the roundabout cost £378,000.
The fresh work will at first be an interim measure before permanent signage is set up shortly after Easter.
Mr Kawczynski said: "I am delighted that the Highways Agency has listened to my concerns and those of my constituents.
"The layout changes they recently made appear to have increased congestion as well as causing a safety issue.
"This was particularly pertinent in the mornings as people took their children to school, went to work and farmers took their cattle and sheep to the market in heavy goods vehicles."
No-one was available from the Highways Agency for comment today.
The scheme is part of a national £317 million pinch point improvement programme, designed to boost local economies, reduce congestion and improve safety on the strategic road network in England.
The Edgebold island scheme was one of four announced for Shropshire.
