Boiler warning after blaze in Ludlow home
Firefighters today warned of the dangers of putting clothes or other inflammable items near boilers following a blaze at a farm in the Shropshire countryside.
The alert went out after a fire in a utility room at a home in the hamlet of Greete, near Ludlow.
Fire crews from Ludlow, Cleobury Mortimer and Tenbury Wells attended the scene at Rock Mill at 8.30am on Tuesday.
The utility room was damaged in the incident.
John Taylor, station manager at Ludlow fire station, said: "The fire was caused by clothes being left too close to the boiler. Fortunately, the alarm was raised when the occupier heard something unusual outside."
Mr Taylor said: "Our advice is not to store combustibles too near to boilers and heating appliances, ensure they are regularly serviced, and test your smoke alarm regularly."
