Whitchurch carpet firm gives hospice £5k boost
Shropshire's children's hospice is thousands of pounds better off thanks to a county company – and its coffers will be bulging again soon thanks to another fundraising challenge.
Whitchurch firm Discount Carpets and Beds visited Hope House Children's Hospice near Oswestry to hand over a cheque for £5,000.
And the hospice is set for a further funding boost thanks to Whitchurch student Callum Talbott, who is to embark upon a fitness challenge.
Discount Carpets and Beds have been a long time supporter of the Morda-based hospice.
During the year the firm donates £1 for every carpet sale they make to the children's charity and the venture raised £2,500 in 2013.
The firm also produced and sold a 2014 naked calendar that featured a number of their male employees, which raised around £1,500.
Meanwhile student Calum Talbott is preparing for a sporting challenge of a different kind to help the hospice.
Callum will be attempting to run, cycle and row 26 miles at Oswestry Leisure Centre.
The fundraising idea was Callum's own idea and was encouraged by his tutors at Oswestry Education Centre where Callum is a Year 11 student. His fundraising efforts have so far led him to raise more than £200 in sponsorship and he hopes to attract a few more donations during the challenge.
Callum is also encouraging other students to follow his lead and take on his challenge for charity.
Lynsey Kilvert, Hope House fundraiser, said: "We are so grateful to Discount Carpets and Beds for their continued support and for raising such a fantastic amount of money for Hope House Children's Hospices.
"Without such support from members of our community we would be unable to continue provided vital services to children and their families in our local area."
