Ludlow MP hails homes reforms plan
New government reforms will make it easier for people to build their own homes in south Shropshire, Ludlow MP Philip Dunne has claimed.
He said the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) was to be reformed to make it "fairer and more flexible".
Under the CIL, landowners and developers must pay a charge on new build properties to the local council. The money raised is used to fund development of infrastructure projects. New amendments to the current legislation, including an amendment to exempt self-build properties, are expected to come into force early this year once cleared through Parliament.
Mr Dunne said: "I have been approached by local residents who want to build their own home, for whom the additional burden of the CIL has been a real barrier.
"I hope this (move) will make it easier for people to afford to build their own homes."
