Drive of a lifetime for ill teenager
A James Bond stunt driver used his licence to thrill by giving a teenager with a brain tumour a ride of a lifetime as part of a charity campaign.
British rally driving champion and film stunt driver Mark Higgins gave 17-year-old Aaron McMenamin a ride in his Ford Fiesta R5, reaching speeds of 100mph around his track in Carno, near Newtown.
Mr Higgins, who performed in Fast and Furious 6, agreed to give Aaron the chance to be his co-driver for the day at his Higgins Rally School, after being approached by the Make a Wish Foundation.
He invited Aaron, who is from Bournemouth, and his mother Dawn to the school so Aaron could be driven at full rally speed on the gravel stage at his training school.
Aaron started to be off-balance at the age of 11. A brain tumour was discovered and he underwent an emergency operation to remove it and has since undergone intensive treatment.
Mrs McMenamin said: "Now he is in the clear and is making amazing progress, in fact he even took his exams last year after not going to school for 18 months because of undergoing treatment. We're so incredibly proud of him as he worked so hard he managed to get Bs and Cs despite his memory being quite poor."
