At the conclusion of the two day inquest, Oxfordshire Coroner Darren Salter said: "Corporal Brent McCarthy was part of a police advisory team at the headquarters when two Afghan uniformed police shot and killed him.

"The two Afghan uniformed police ran from the base but one was shot and killed whilst the other escaped."

He paid tribute to the men's "phenomenal" performance during their training and deployment.

A family statement read out by Corporal McCarthy's father, John McCarthy said: "Since the loss of our son Brent our lives have been shattered beyond belief. If it wasn't for the support shown towards Sarah, Jodie and myself, we have no idea how we would have got this far."
