Homes plan for empty Shrewsbury office block
A large former office block on one of the main roads into Shrewsbury town centre could be transformed into housing under new plans.
Developers want to convert, extend and remodel Cambrian House, on Chester Street, to create 21 homes.
The offices are all vacant but a similar scheme for 24 homes on the site was rejected on appeal by a Government inspector in 2007 due to the "loss of employment floor space" in the county town.
But the current applicants maintain the current site, which dates back to the 1960s, now has a "negative impact" on the local area and has "very few" design details of merit.
Developers say their plan will enhance the Shrewsbury Conservation Area and bring an old building up to date. As part of the project, a number of solar panels would be fitted to its roof to "further enhance" the buildings green credentials.
