Woore farm's wind turbine plan gets go-ahead
Controversial plans to create an 80ft turbine in the countryside near Market Drayton have been given the go ahead despite fears it could damage the environment and affect public health.
Shropshire Council's north planning committee has approved the scheme to create the turbine at Cherry Tree Farm in Woore.
The 10Kw turbine will be used to provide power for the applicants' farm.
The council received more than 10 letters of objection from local residents who raised concerns about the potential impacts on noise and wildlife.
Woore Parish Council also objected to the plans after raising concerns about the potential impacts on public health.
But speaking at yesterday's Shropshire Council planning meeting in Wem, Councillor Joyce Barrow said: "I have no problem with this. It is well hidden and is a reasonably sized turbine. I don't think it will impact on anything in the area."
Chairman of the committee, Councillor Arthur Walpole, said: "It is not a huge turbine and will not damage the landscape " and Councillor Vince Hunt added: "I don't think the impacts of this one will be particularly big on anybody."
A report by Shropshire Council's planning chiefs, who recommended the committee approve plans, says:"Having taken professional advice from consultees it is considered that on balance the scale, siting and design of the wind turbine is acceptable as it will not have a detrimental impact on either the quality or character of the surrounding rural and open landscape."
