Muller wins support for Market Drayton homes plan
Dairy giant Müller has won support from town councillors for its plans for a new housing development to help Market Drayton meet its target of building 1,200 houses by 2026.
The Market Drayton-based company has submitted an outline planning application to Shropshire Council to build up to 20 homes on land north of Shrewsbury Road in the town.
Under Shropshire Council's SAMDev planning blueprint, Market Drayton has been set a target of opening up new sites for homes.
The council's countywide vision of how the area will develop by 2026 has been at least two years in the making.
The scheme put forward by the dairy includes creating two and three bedroom houses, two of which would be affordable.
Market Drayton Town Council was first notified of the proposal in April and supported the application at last night's planning committee meeting. It will now go to Shropshire Council planners for consideration and a final decision.
This latest scheme is an addition to the company's plans to extend its site off Shrewsbury Road to create the UK's largest butter plant which is due to open later this year.
This week Müller bosses also revealed they have bought the Nom dairy in Telford which will safeguard more than 150 jobs.
