Much Wenlock gun drama man admits imitation weapon charge
A man has admitted possessing an imitation firearm in connection with an incident that saw armed police called out to Much Wenlock.
William Crowe, 56, of Maddox Court, Wellington, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday in connection with events on March 31 this year.
He admitted possessing the imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Sentencing was adjourned to September 2, with a pre-sentence report ordered and psychological reports to be arranged.
Up to four further charges in connection with the incident may be put to Crowe at the later hearing.
West Mercia Police said on the day of the incident armed police officers were called to the town on March 31 after a man threatened patrol officer with what appeared to be a handgun at 4.10pm.
At 4.25pm, the man was approached by armed officers and dog units were called in as he attempted to enter a property in Stretton Road.
Armed police fired a shot, which did not hit anyone, after it is alleged he was threatening them.
The round did not hit the man and he was arrested shortly after being tackled by a police dog.
A handgun was recovered at the scene.
Crowe was remanded in custody until his next appearance in September.
