French-born Marion Legeais, 15, who lives in Kingsland in Shrewsbury, has been chosen for the under-16 alpine squad for people born in 1998.

The youngster, who is a day student at Concord College in nearby Acton Burnell, was born in Paris but moved to Shropshire with her family in 2007.

She first put on a pair of skis before the age of three and started competing competitively when she lived in the Alps for a year before coming to England. In 2012 she joined the British Ski Academy.

Team GB will now help with her training before the international schedule of competitions is released for the next ski season which starts in October. The rising star said she was thrilled to have been selected. "It's a dream come true," she said. "I have practiced hard and have kept my fitness levels high. Even now when I go to race I get really stressed but when you get on the start line the adrenaline kicks in and you just go for it.

"My whole family has always been into skiing but I'm the only one so far that has gone further in it and I find it a really exciting sport."

She has also achieved some outstanding results through what has been described as 'spectacular consistency' in her three specialities.
