Tributes paid to loving father after Shropshire rabbit hunting accident
The wife of a shooting enthusiast who died in an accident while out hunting rabbits in Shropshire today spoke of her devastation.
Carl Rubisch, a 30-year-old quantity surveyor, was killed by a shot accidentally discharged by his own gun, police believe.
Mr Rubisch was in fields in Brockton when he was fatally injured, leaving a widow, Fay, son Callum, four, and daughter Phoebe, who is one and a half.
Fay said: "A freak thing happened to him. It's a bit unbelievable really.
"It's a shock because he was so young, so happy, and had a lot of plans for the future.
"Because of how safe he was you would never have thought it would have happened to Carl. Carl was the safest man you could hope to meet."
Fay, 29, said they had been only married a year.
Funeral arrangements are still being finalised.
West Mercia Police are investigating the incident which happened at about 9.30pm on Friday, just below Bury Ditches Iron Age hill fort.
A post mortem has been carried out on Mr Rubisch, from Wall, near Lichfield, and an inquest is due to open.
