Bosses pledge to reopen fire-hit Claverley pub
Pub bosses today pledged to reopen a converted barn used by sports clubs in Shropshire after fire destroyed its roof and caused substantial damage.
The blaze broke out in the barn at the Plough in Claverley, near Bridgnorth, in the early hours of yesterday.
The building housed a gym, changing rooms and a sauna. No-one was injured and the cost of the damage is not yet known.
But Keith Horton, who has run The Plough for more than seven years, said owners Punch Taverns planned to renovate the building.
"We've spoken to Punch Taverns and they are going to let us know about the insurance side of things," he said. "But the plan is to get the building back to how it was."
The barn is used by Mercian Regional Football League outfit Claverley FC for changing rooms and also Claverley Boxing Club.
Mr Horton said he was woken by one of his employees who spotted the flames at 6.30am.
"The damage is mainly to the roof but we haven't been able to get inside yet."
Investigation are continuing into the cause of the fire but Andy Griffiths, of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, said nothing suspicious had been found or reported. Police spokesman Richard Ewels said the fire was not suspicious.
