Olympics marquee for Shropshire County Show

A giant marquee made for the 2012 Olympics will take pride of place at the Shropshire County Show, housing more than 60 craft stalls, organisers revealed today.

The one-day show, which is being held at Shrewsbury's West Mid Showground on May 25, is also on target to smash its livestock entry records.

The marquee, which was specially made for the Olympics, is one of the biggest available at 50 metres by 20 metres and has been offered to show organisers by Charles Home of Tents and Marquees.

Mr Home, who has been a supporter of the show for many years, said: "We are delighted to be able to offer this giant marquee to our very own County Show.

"It was made specially to meet a specific specification agreed with the Olympic organisers and as the showground is one of the rare venues able to accommodate such a large marquee we are pleased to have found it a home"

Wonderful

Judith Williams, who is a trustee and organiser for the County Show, said: "The marquee will house over 60 crafters, some local and many who are travelling long distances to be at this wonderful show.

"We are so delighted we will have a really spacious and comfortable location for the craft people to display and demonstrate their wares."

Organisers also said arrangements for the 2013 show were already well advanced.

And after breaking all-time livestock entry records in 2012, early indications suggest that more records will be broken in 2013.

The annual show will once again be a one day format with many main arena events including the Shropshire Young Farmers 'It's a Knock Out' competition and an 'Inter Hunt Relay' with a bit of a difference.
