Big renovation project to restore historic inn
A former 18th century coaching inn which has lain empty for two years will re-open as a hotel and restaurant – bringing at least 15 jobs to Shropshire.
The Salwey Arms at Woofferton, near Ludlow, will re-open in the summer once a major renovation project has been carried out. It has been bought by Hugo and Cilla Lywood, who hope to restore the pub to its former glory and bring new jobs to the area.
They have also promised to maintain the existing character of the pub, which lies just off the A49 on one of the main gateways to Shropshire.
The pub, which is a Grade II listed building, has been shut for two years and was up for sale with a £295,000 price tag.

Some parts of the pub, including the central staircase, date back to when it was built in the late 18th century.
Work is expected to start on the building in the near future. It is not known how much the renovation project will cost.
Mr Lywood said the building was a 'landmark property', and said once the pub was open 15 new jobs would be created.
He said: "While retaining it's all-important and beautiful original features, the renovation plans will inject a modern, fresh and contemporary feel with a few quirky twists that will appeal to a wide audience of locals and visitors alike."
Mrs Lywood said: "We plan to introduce both bistro and restaurant style dining, both with an emphasis on quality, seasonal and local ingredients, exceptional service and great value for money."
"Other additions include a separate bar with open fires, the construction of a traditional smokehouse where fish and local produce can be smoked for use on our own menus and for retail sale, as well as the re-development of five luxury letting rooms within the main property."
