TV vet Steve Leonard tackles University Challenge
Shropshire's TV vet has been back on the box, testing his knowledge on University Challenge.
Steve Leonard, who runs a veterinary practice in north Shropshire with his brother Tom and business partner Andy Nelson, appeared in the Christmas special on Monday.
Mr Leonard has made regular appearances on BBC wildlife shows including Vet School as well as ITV1's Safari Vet School since leaving Bristol University. He was in a team alongside Rose Lea, an economic advisor, Tony Juniper, a nature campaigner and the deputy chairman of BAFTA Tim Corrie – being asked the questions by Jeremy Paxman.
The team competed against a group of graduates from Leeds University including comedian Alistair McGowan and chef Jay Rayner.
The programme was filmed in Manchester and Mr Leonard's University lost by just five points, gaining 135 points to Leeds' 140. He qualified in 1996 and said it was a real test of his knowledge appearing on the show.
He said: "It is tough. The questions are difficult. You haven't got much time to think, it is based on adrenalin.
"But it was a bit of surprise to be asked and was great to be part of such an iconic programme.
"Luckily they stuck in some medical questions."
Mr Leonard added: "It reminded me of The Young Ones. That was my favourite episode."
