A Shropshire county cricketer who sold a car stolen during a burglary to a scrap yard has been warned he could face jail.
Martin David Delaney, 19, of Kingsland, Arleston, Telford, admitted at Shrewsbury Crown Court today handling stolen goods, a Peugeot 206, knowing or believing it to be stolen.
Judge Robin Onions said the victims had not received justice despite their home in Priorslee being ransacked and items including the car taken.
The judge heard that the prosecution was not proceeding with a case of conspiracy with others to enter the house.
He told Delaney, who has played for Madeley Cricket Club this year: "The victims will not receive justice because you put your concerns about your safety first.
"Prison is an overwhelming likelihood for you. This is a serious case of handling," he said.
Miss Sarah Cooper, for Delaney, said her client preferred not to name those involved because he feared reprisals.
Mr Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said Delaney admitted handling on the basis that he told certain people that he knew the house would be empty.
He also admitted being approached soon after the burglary, between April 20 and 26, to help dispose of the Peugeot car. He went to the scrap yard with another person and shared the proceeds of the sale.
Mr Jones said Delaney further admitted a camera and other items taken in the break-in were found in the communal area where he lived.
Judge Onions said: "This was a car taxed and insured with an O3 registration plate and with petrol in the tank that was sold for £150."
The judge adjourned the case until September 14, granting Delaney bail and ordering reports.
