Closure of Ludlow road cancelled
Controversial plans to close a main street in Ludlow for two days to allow cables to be laid have been scrapped.
Controversial plans to close a main street in Ludlow for two days to allow cables to be laid have been scrapped.
King Street was to be closed to all traffic on Tuesday and Wednesday next week to allow telecommunications cables to be installed under the road and pavements by BT contractors.
The road would have been shut between 9.30am and 3.30pm on both days, causing widespread disruption.
But the proposed work has now been cancelled by BT officials who have decided the cables will no longer be needed.
The news has been met with relief by Councillor Rosanna Taylor, Shropshire councillor for Ludlow North, who said significant disruption in the town centre would now be avoided.
She said: "It is good news that there will be no need for diversions to be put in place around the town centre for those two days.
"It will be a relief for businesses too."
